When it comes to weddings, Bollywood has two modes, either a big, fat Indian wedding at an exotic destination or a complete ‘hush-hush’ secret affair. Joining the list of celebs who had intimate weddings is yet another Bollywood couple – Pooja Batra and Nawab Shah.
Pooja Batra is a well-known name in Bollywood and South cinema. She is known for roles in hit movies like Virasat, Nayak, Haseena Maan Jaayegi and Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye. Nawab Shah too has appeared in a number of hit films including Don 2, Dilwale and Tiger Zinda Hai. Nawab will also be seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s period drama Panipat, along with Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon. He will also be a part of Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3.
The former Miss India took to Instagram to reveal the news of her wedding with Nawab. Pooja and Nawab, who made their relationship public in June this year, tied the knot on July 4, in Delhi. This is Pooja’s second marriage. She was earlier married to an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Sonu Ahluwalia, in California from 2002 to 2011.
Being from the same industry, Pooja Batra and Nawab Shah had known each other for a while, but things never really worked out for them to take things forward. 20 years after knowing each other, the two reconnected through a common friend even when they were ‘Saat samundar paar’. In an interview to Mensxp, Nawab Shah revealed that he and Pooja reconnected while she was in Los Angeles. And, their first meeting was at an airport. “I decided on marriage when I hadn’t even met her again as she was in LA. It was just a very strong feeling that this is the right thing that’s happening,” Nawab said in the interview. In fact, he was so sure that he was ready to pop the question to her then and there at the airport.
The formal proposal happened five months after they started dating. Nawab proposed to Pooja in Delhi when he came to meet her parents with his family, and she accepted.
Revealing the details of the private ceremony, in another interview, Pooja Batra said, “Nawab and I exchanged vows in Delhi, with only our families in attendance. Our loved ones kept asking us why we were delaying it (the marriage). I was simply going with the flow, but then I realised that he is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with, and there is no point in delaying it any further. So, here we are. We had an Arya Samaj wedding, and we will register our marriage this week.”
