Dev D Movie ReviewMovie Rating:
★★★★★★★★☆☆

To start afresh, Dev D is not only entertaining but really engaging. It is a tale about the most boring character that Indian literature has ever produced, drunkard and self-destructive lover—Devdas. However, Dev D portrays this character fresh!

Anurag Kashyap’s latest venture is quite an intelligent take on the subject yet a bit lengthy. The film is about an aimless graduate (Abhay Deol) who returns to home from abroad but is clueless about his future plans except getting involved with childhood friend Paro. He had shared time talking dirty to her over the phone but slowly being suspicious about her past, he rejects the girl. She gets married to a man she did not like but Abhay Deol delves himself into drugs and whores.

The basic plot of the film is derived from Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s original tale but the director has succeeded in keeping it contemporary. The director has made the story work and given it an honest tone. The audiences can very well relate to the characters of the film. The real magic is created by the music director Amit Trivedi whose music constantly swings between allusion and dreaminess and succeeds in taking the film into a different world. He has intelligently used the music tracks wherever required. All the characters including Abhay Deol and Mahie Gill have delivered first-class performance. Mahie Gill has witched on from one genre to other and back to original in a wonderful way.
