Mani Ratnam new venture Raavan has received a mixed reviews from critics worldwide. Movie is a loose adaption of Ramayana and was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu version simultaneously. While the movie grossed 20 crore on the opening day, collections received a steep downfall thereafter. Word of mouth publicity is on negative side and it could cost the movie pretty heavily at Box office.

While movie features brilliant and breathtaking cinematography by Santosh Sivan, loose screenplay can be accredited to week collections after opening day. Performances wise Abhishek and Aishwarya are at their best, while presence of Govinda in the movie is understandable due to weak characterization. On an overall Movie is expected to do well in South while in North it is expected to do average business.
