Sohan Roy’s DAM999 gained attention of all delegates at AFM2010.  DAM999 was ‘one of a kind’ movie at the exhibition, being credited as the most brilliant re-creation of a gigantic Dam disaster.

The story is a parallel development of eclectic Indian myth and philosophy, scrutinizing each character’s psyche with the same deliberation of intent as the force of the pressure-mounted dam. The story arcs toward emotional upheaval making the audience wonder whether the turbulence of their lives might have metaphorical significance to the dam in the movie.

Involving a multi-ethnic cast from India and abroad, the film also visualizes Sohan Roy’s work of art in association with 16 National and International award winners. The story was inspired by the collapse of Banqiao dam in China, 1975, which led to the collapse of 61 reservoirs, killing 2,50,000 innocent people.

In DAM999, the enigmatic set of nines has great significance. The number 9 is deep rooted within the whole story, there are 9 characters portraying 9 distinct emotions from the ancient Indian concept of “Navarasa” – the 9 emotions.

The worldwide release of DAM999 is expected very soon. When the reel rolls, you can see the way how Sohan Roy managed to make DAM999 an immortal movie that combines maritime life, India’s traditional concepts and a dam disaster together.

Guzaarish Music Review

Simply Outstanding & Mind Blowing. These are the only words which can somehow strive to match the excellence of Guzaarish soundtrack. Each and every song in the soundtrack has been masterly crafted & outcome is an absolute CLASSIC.

We all recognize Sanjay Leela Bhansali as a brilliant director who guarantees cinematic excellence in his movies & one of the most respectable personality ever in bollywood industry. We all knew he has a great taste for music, but we never imagined he can be music director as well. Guzaarish is musical debut of Sanjay Leela Bhansali & once again he breaks all barriers of perfection. Expections were already pretty high from the movie, recently released Soundtrack is going to set sky high craziness. I won’t be surprised if Guzaarish go down as biggest box office collector in Indian history.

“Tera Zikr” by Shail Hada & Rakesh Pandit is the star performer of the soundtrack. Lead track of the album “Guzaarish” is an excellent composition sung by KK. Background score in the track makes it memorable & an instant HIT. One of the most haunting composition in the soundtrack is in form of “Saiba” rendered in the vocals of  Vibhavari Joshi, Francois Castellino & Shail Hada.

Kunal Ganjawala’s “Sau Gram Zindagai“ is a melodious track and one of his very best till date. “Jaane Kiske Khwaab” & “Daayein Baayein“, both sung by KK completes the soundtrack making it an all time classic. “Udi” in the vocals of  Sunidhi Chauhan & Shail Hada reminds you of Maiya Maiya but still it stands out of it own. Harshdeep Kaur makes a impressive singing debu with “Chaand Ki Katoori”. Finally musical talent show winners are making it big at higher level.

Keh Na Saku by Shail Hada & Dhundli Dhundly by Shankar Mahadevan are among very best in the album. Guzaarish is a complete musical journey & it can’t get better than this. Lets hope Sanjay Leela Bhansali will prove us wrong pretty soon.

This one may not come as a surprise but finally Mahesh Bhupathi decided to go public about his relationship with Lara Dutta. Mahesh twitted on his Twitter account today, declaring he has been engaged with bollywood queen Lara Dutta.  Couple got engaged in New York last week. In response to Mahesh Tweet, Lara twitted back with a smile confirming his acceptance.

Both have been seen together on many occasions, though they never confirmed about their relationship status. Bhupathi divorced his wife Shvetha Jaishankar in July this year after 6 year long marriage.

Though marriage isn’t on the card soon as both are quiet busy with their career, but never knows & Mahesh may pull out another surprise soon.

Mani Ratnam new venture Raavan has received a mixed reviews from critics worldwide. Movie is a loose adaption of Ramayana and was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu version simultaneously. While the movie grossed 20 crore on the opening day, collections received a steep downfall thereafter. Word of mouth publicity is on negative side and it could cost the movie pretty heavily at Box office.

While movie features brilliant and breathtaking cinematography by Santosh Sivan, loose screenplay can be accredited to week collections after opening day. Performances wise Abhishek and Aishwarya are at their best, while presence of Govinda in the movie is understandable due to weak characterization. On an overall Movie is expected to do well in South while in North it is expected to do average business.

2010 hasn’t been a great year for Bollywood yet. There are hardly any major box office success this year and only a few movies have managed to recover production costs. All hopes are piled on Kites now which is slated to release on 21st May. Made with a budget of over 60 crore, movie will also release in overseas market with an English version.

Anurag Basu directed venture will be released by Reliance BIG Pictures on over 2000 screens simultaneously.

Kites is a cross border romantic thriller. It’s a tale of romance between Indian guy (Hrithik Roshan) and Mexican beauty (Barbara Mori). Movie is produced on an epic scale and shoot primarily in Las Vegas, Sante Fe and Los Angeles. While the Hindi version of the movie is more than 2 hours, English version is curtailed to 90 minutes to cater a wide range of audience.

Lets hope that Kites will bring an end to bollywood misery this year and take Hrithik to a new level of height in his career.
