Mani Ratnam new venture Raavan has received a mixed reviews from critics worldwide. Movie is a loose adaption of Ramayana and was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu version simultaneously. While the movie grossed 20 crore on the opening day, collections received a steep downfall thereafter. Word of mouth publicity is on negative side and it could cost the movie pretty heavily at Box office.

While movie features brilliant and breathtaking cinematography by Santosh Sivan, loose screenplay can be accredited to week collections after opening day. Performances wise Abhishek and Aishwarya are at their best, while presence of Govinda in the movie is understandable due to weak characterization. On an overall Movie is expected to do well in South while in North it is expected to do average business.

2010 hasn’t been a great year for Bollywood yet. There are hardly any major box office success this year and only a few movies have managed to recover production costs. All hopes are piled on Kites now which is slated to release on 21st May. Made with a budget of over 60 crore, movie will also release in overseas market with an English version.

Anurag Basu directed venture will be released by Reliance BIG Pictures on over 2000 screens simultaneously.

Kites is a cross border romantic thriller. It’s a tale of romance between Indian guy (Hrithik Roshan) and Mexican beauty (Barbara Mori). Movie is produced on an epic scale and shoot primarily in Las Vegas, Sante Fe and Los Angeles. While the Hindi version of the movie is more than 2 hours, English version is curtailed to 90 minutes to cater a wide range of audience.

Lets hope that Kites will bring an end to bollywood misery this year and take Hrithik to a new level of height in his career.

Box Office of Indian cineplexes has been absolutely shattered with the overwhelming response to Sharukh new movie – My Name is Khan. Though Movie is badly effected in Mumbai due to Shiv Sena protests, few brave multiplex owners dared to release the movie at any cost. There were few protests in other states like Delhi & Gujarat, but all of those couldn’t stop people from exercising their right to freedom and entertainment.
Initial collections at most of the centers have been 100% and is expected to remain same till Sunday. 80% advanced bookings for weekend has already been registered at all major multiplexes. Outside a  major multiplex in Delhi, audience celebrating the release of movie by burning firecrackers and distribution of sweats. Verdict of the movie has already been decided, only thing left to be seen is will it write new chapters of financial profits in bollywood history. We hope that Sharukh will finally get to sleep tonight instead of twitting whole day with his fans

Multiplex owners in Mumbai has decided to abide by the protest  of few politicians and My name is Khan is not going to release this Friday anywhere in Mumbai. This may lead to millions of losses and the fate of My name is Khan is under serious threat. Controversy started when Sharukh Khan made a statement that he wanted Pakistani players to play in IPL and it lead to severe violent protest by the political party Shiv Sena declaring not to allow screening of Sharukh new movie in Mumbai unless he apolizes.

Maharashtra government assured that full protection will be provided to multiplexes and film should release this Friday. 25% of the police force in Mumbai were deployed guarding various multiplexes to ensure release of My Name is Khan. However noone is willing to take risk and possible property damages, as a result multiplex owners given up to the wills of few protesters. This is the darkest day and is a serious threat to freedom. Leave government apart if we can’t stand up for our own rights its a national shame. Sharukh Khan should be applauded for the fact that he refused to apologize to Shiv Sena or anyone else as he never said anything wrong. The actor has been under immense pressure and is having sleepless nights. Millions are in stake with the release of movie and one can image the state of mind he is in.

The least we can do for this greatest actor and a true Indian is to ensure that we don’t watch pirated version of My name is Khan on our DVDs  and movie is enjoyed in multiplex only. Losses in Mumbai must be covered up by ensuring above expectations trade in other metros. Let’s hope that All Will be Well soon.

3 Idiots is now officially biggest ever blockbuster in India. By end of January movie has grossed a mind boggling INR 191,30,00,000. Movie is still going very strong and it will be extremely tougher to break this record in near future. Interestingly the 2nd biggest grosser in India also stars Aamir khan.

Last year Ghajini collected INR 114,80,00,000. This ends all debates on who is the No 1 actor in India and we are sure that the best of Aamir Khan is still to come as he never end his search for perfectionism. Aamir is the most admired actor in India and is often compared with the likes of Tom Hanks in Hollywood. With a 100% success track record for past 10 year, Aamir is most safest bet for producers on box Office.
